The Quinta Almar Balsa estate, spanning 4 hectares, is situated within the Ria Formosa, a peaceful, unspoilt area where sea views can be enjoyed.

The town of Tavira and its shops are a 10-minute ride away, as are the magnificent beaches. Faro Airport is also close by, just 30 minutes away.

It has been restored in the traditional Portuguese style, while incorporating the latest modern comforts.

It is surrounded by a garden full of flowers and fruit trees.

The rental comprises several houses, which you will have to yourselves,

featuring:

4 to 6 ground-floor bedrooms overlooking the garden, each with an en-suite bathroom and toilet.
1 to 2 living rooms, 2 dining rooms and 2 fully equipped kitchens opening onto a sheltered dining terrace with a plancha.

Quinta Almar Balsa

The Ria Formosa Natural Park is in the heart of the Algarve, and the archaeological site of the Roman town of Balsa is there. You will be surrounded by nature and Portuguese tradition.

Balsa is the name of the vast Roman city. It dates from the 1st century BC. The Quinta is located on the outskirts of this site.

A place where nature and history meet.

Unfortunately, there are no archaeological remains at the site today. However, archaeologists discovered some mosaics during the works.

The history of Quinta Almar Balsa.

We fell in love with this plot of land back in 2017. The pigsty, the henhouse, the barn and the main house were all abandoned. They were falling into ruin. Well, it was just sheep that grazed beneath the carob trees, and they were tended to by their shepherd, Apollinaire. But he's not around anymore. The plot was part of a larger estate that was planted with carob trees. The line of trees caught the eye as it stretched towards the sea at the far end of the plantations.

Our ambition was to renovate these five buildings whilst preserving the spirit of the locale.

The 'Comboio', a seaside train, runs alongside the property and can take you to Tavira, Faro and Vila Real de Santo António in no time at all. The station is very close by. It has all the charm of the little stations of the past. But don't worry, the traffic is very light and you won't be bothered by it.

Out in the countryside, you may hear the sounds of horses, sheep, birds or dogs in the distance.

The Camboio will also tell you that the nearby towns of Faro, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António are all within easy reach.

You will be staying in 2 or 3 of the Quinta's houses.

The estate has five residences. Your stay will be in 2 or 3 of them. The space around your houses is just for you to use. The other houses will never be rented out. The people who look after the quinta use one as a workspace. The other two will typically be unoccupied or inhabited on occasion by the proprietors (a pair of individuals).
